Clustered regularly inter spaced short palindromic repeats, CRISPR associated genes, (CRISPR-Cas9), the new genome editing system, could produce a superior challenge for cancer research when considering the communication protocol of the cancer cell. The UCLA research administration suggests the existence of an important variable in the editing process: the vectors could be off-target. In my opinion this would only construe a preliminary query.
My prognosis is taken from a larger scale theoretical perspective. We still do not have sufficient empirical evidence to suggest cancer cell mutations occur after CRISPR-Cas9 editing has taken place. So far, some researchers are concentrating their work in defining mutation after editing, unfortunately under the assumption that cloning verifiable constructs will provide a screening capable of observing mutations after editing.
We could be, as we have in the past, underestimating the adaptability of the cancer cell in its survival mode, and more importantly, we could be forgetting the use of the organism's communication protocol to tame, deceive, and deflect adversaries -- natural or synthetic.
